Homegrown Fest: Local Food and Urban Ag Workshops & Composting Symposium- March 19, 2016

Homegrown Fest will feature sixteen 25 minute mini-workshops from local experts on a variety of topics including gardening, homesteading, diy, cooking, preserving the harvest, and some sessions are geared for kids! Homegrown Fest will bring together community members to explore and develop local food, agriculture, and gardening knowledge and skills. The aim of Homegrown Fest is to increase the availability and affordability of local food, to grow and pass on knowledge related to food traditions and culture, and to reconnect the community to sustainable and holistic lifestyles for the 21st century.
The event will be held on March 19th from 9:00 am- 1:00 pm at the Lincoln Land Community College Workforce Careers Center. Registration will be $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Lunch will be available and a donation of $5 is suggested.

The Composting Symposium is a forum for sharing composting information, stimulating the composting market, and bringing composters, educators, and businesses together so that everyone can benefit from learning about this excellent organic soil amendment.
The 2016 Composting Symposium features:
Hands-on, practical information to get you started or more effectively use your compost
Targeted sessions for beginning composters and those with some experience wanting to learn moreLearning for backyard or small-scale locations such as a community garden or small farm
A Build Your Own Bin to vermicompost at home, in the classroom, or at the office
Special kids programming
Experienced practitioner presenters
The event will be held on March 19th from 1:00pm-3:30pm at the Lincoln Land Community College Workforce Development Center. A Composting Symposium ticket will be $10 in advance and $15 at the door. A Build Your Own Bin Workshop (BYOB) ticket, which includes supplies for a take-home Vermicomposting Bin, is $20. Please note: If you attend the BYOB Workshop you do not need to register separately for the Composting Symposium.

The Composting Symposium is organized by: Lincoln Land Community College, University of Illinois Extension, Illinois Recycling Association, Illinois Department of Agriculture and Illinois Stewardship Alliance.
Businesses or organizations related to composting or gardening are invited to exhibit at the symposium.
