Growing Urban Agriculture, Community Gardens and Healthy Communities through Grow Springfield Presented by Lindsay Record, Illinois Stewardship Alliance
Tuesday, January 27 at 6:30 p.m. Lincoln Public Library in Springfield Grow Springfield is a brand new network for urban growers that formed in 2014 that aims to increase urban agriculture and community gardening in Springfield. Grow Springfield envisions a Springfield where community gardens are abundant; where farm-stands and farmers markets are a part of daily life; where opportunities exist for urban growers to make a living; where residents know where their food comes from, how it is grown, and how to use it; and families are healthier, happier, and stronger as a result. Grow Springfield has developed a plan with short and long term strategies to help residents learn to grow their own food, utilize urban agriculture as an economic engine, increase environmental stewardship, strengthen community and contribute to the social, emotional and educational development of children and youth.
