Grow Springfield Administrative Position now available through Americorp

Host site: Illinois Stewardship Alliance

SUMMARY: Working closely with Grow Springfield administrative committee, the AmeriCorps member will help to coordinate Grow Springfield, a community garden and urban agriculture network through event organizing, research, media, marketing and more.

Term length: 900 hours (Beginning November 2014)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Learn about the issues of community gardening, urban agriculture, food insecurity and current status in Springfield

  • Assist with coordination of the Grow Springfield network and administrative committee through meeting coordination and communicating with members

  • Communicate with Grow Springfield members to organize public events including a community gardening and urban agriculture workshop

  • Conduct research about urban agriculture efforts across the country and share information with the Grow Springfield network

  • Assist with the development of media marketing materials

  • Work with the Administrative Committee in the development of a work plan and implementation of the plan

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interest in community gardening, urban agriculture and local food systems

  • Knowledge of Springfield community and ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders

  • Computer skills, ability to work self-directed and strong organizational skills required

  • Experience with gardening, community development, event organizing or marketing preferred
