Buying from seed gives you a much wider variety of vegetables, herbs and flowers to choose from.  The process takes a little bit more time and care, but the practice is very rewarding!  Most online companies will send a free seed catalog through the mail or allow for a free PDF download on thier website.  If you would rather shop local,  many businesses set up seed displays in the Spring at the start of the gardening season. Or you can collect, save and germinate your own!

Plants are the best option for instant gratification in the garden!  Purchasing plants that have been cared for in a greenhouse also ensures healthy starts and timely planting.  Some online seed retailers offer the option to purchase plant starts by mail, but shopping local is encouraged when going this route.
